WOW! I'm 39 and spoiled!
This was one of the best birthday gifts I could ask for. My husband took the whole day off of work and wouldn't let me lift a finger to help out. He made a wonderful breakfast then told me to go upstairs and lay on the couch while Samantha rubbed my feet. I could do whatever I wanted for a couple of hours, my favorite choice was to lay in bed and read. That's when my family decorated and gave me these wonderful gifts. I opened my card up from my children and found a paper inside telling me that Saturday (it was Tuesday) we were all going to the Orchestra at La Fenice in Venice. What a gift! To enjoy an orchestra with my children! When I opened my husbands card up, another piece of paper fell out letting me know I was to get ready to leave for an opera at a place (Palazzo Barbarigo-Minotto) in Venice. We had a babysitter arriving in a few hours. I was so surprised I couldn't believe it. This birthday is one I will cherish forever. Thank you so much my sweet family!
The above picture is from Samantha. The picture below is from Isaac.
Jana drew me a cardinal knowing how much I love watching birds. They are so sweet!
James drew me a beautiful butterfly and vase of flowers. This is quite a gift from my boy! He is not one to just sit down and draw. What a treasure for me to keep.
...and this was my massage!
The opera we attended was actually four in two different rooms of the palace. They acted out scenes from four different operas and switched rooms halfway in between. If we knew Italian we would have understood the story line a bit better. I was grateful to get to read a little about them in our pamphlet.
On the train to Venice for the opera.
We found a quaint little osteria (quaint family-style Italian restaurant) and tried some new wine.
This is walking into the opera room. We were not allowed to photograph during the performance.

This is the second room.
We thought our orchestra began at 7pm so we found a restaurant that was open around 5:30 (that is early to eat dinner in Italy) we were glad to find something open. Here we are enjoying our dinner.
It was the beginning of Carnevale so there were streamers and confetti all over the ground. We saw a few colorful costumes with masks and just a couple children reaching in their bags to throw confetti pieces around. But, the children's favorite part about Venice are the birds. They just love to feed the pigeons.
We thought we were doing pretty good. We found the orchestra building an hour and a half early:( Then tried to find some dolce (dessert). Since we were soooooo early we thought we could find a cute little dolce shop and get some dessert. Would you know it?! We could not find one place that would sell us just dessert. We were kicked out of one restaurant because that's all we wanted to order. They told us "We are a restaurant, not a place for just dolce." We wandered for awhile and decided to stop at a shop that sold a little of everything including chocolate. That hit the sweet tooth nicely. We were then off to the orchestra with chocolate in hand.
We were in the nose bleed section, but I loved it! My kiddos could look down and see everything while enjoying watching people. We did need to look over the lights which got a little tiresome towards the end, but we just moved seats or sat on the edge of the chair.
A memory of mine that I will cherish the rest of my life. Thank you my wonderful family! I am blessed to have you as my husband and children.
